Foreign Minister discloses OSCE presidency plans

Ukraine, which will chair the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe in 2013, hopes to combine the initiative of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to conclude a new treaty on European security with policy documents of the OSCE.

This was stated by Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Kostiantyn Hryshchenko, who participated in the meeting of Foreign Ministers of CIS countries in Moscow, answering questions from an UKRINFORM correspondent in Russia about the plans of Ukraine in the context of the OSCE chairmanship in 2013.

"We hope that within three years, there will be a very serious discussion to seek the most appropriate and effective way to incorporate the key elements (the Russian proposal for the European Security Treaty - Ed.), which we share, in the documents of the OSCE," Hryshchenko said.

According to him, the main task is to intensify the work to find best ideas of collective security "as part of our big space."

In particular, among the priority issues the Ukrainian minister named the strengthening of democratic principles of social development in the countries of OSCE responsibility, the resumption of talks on modernization of agreements in the sphere of arms control. "These are very serious questions that we will of course raise in the context of the processes that will happen before 2013," Hryshchenko said. He expressed hope that the parties can make progress in agreeing a plan of action pursuant to the agreements reached at the summit in Astana.

Another important task, according to the Foreign Minister, is the settlement of frozen conflicts. "We consider it fundamentally important to make progress in finding an amicable solution for Chisinau and Tiraspol," Hryshchenko said. UKRINFORM
