Yanukovych: Memory of Holocaust victims makes us do everything to prevent intolerance
The memory of the millions of victims of the Holocaust compels us to do everything possible to prevent in the Ukrainian society any manifestations of anti-Semitism, xenophobia, racism and intolerance. This was emphasized by President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych in his address to the nation on the occasion of International Holocaust Remembrance Day on Thursday.
"Inhuman ideology of the Nazis, based on biological hatred and obliging pseudoscience, cruel xenophobia, led to the immense large-scale catastrophe - the slaughter of people by nationality," Yanukovych said, UKRINFORM reported citing the press office of the head of state.
During the World War II, the president noted, a terrible tragedy engulfed Ukraine, which, as a result of the Holocaust, lost many hundreds of thousands of its Jewish citizens.
Yanukovych stressed that this autumn we will mark the sorrowful date at the state level - the 70th anniversary of the brutal destruction of people in the Babi Yar, pay tribute to innocent victims and commemorate the Ukrainians, who often at the cost of their own lives rescued their countrymen from certain death.
The president, paying tribute to the victims of Nazism, called upon all people of goodwill to the understanding, mutual respect and tolerance.
